Diningroom table concept Designed by Sebastian Freij drawn 2/6-2022.
"The Oak" came about when I decided to work with wood instead of metal. Choosing wood over metal has always been a challenge for me, as metal has traditionally been my "go-to" material. However, stepping out of my comfort zone is essential for growth as a designer, and what better way to start working with wood than by drawing inspiration from the silhouette of an oak tree, one of the strongest trees.
The legs, organically shaped like branches, form a stable silhouette, representing the oak from its firm roots up to the "tree crown" just beneath the tabletop. They even extend through the tabletop, reaching for the sky. The chamfer along the edge evokes the feeling of standing at the base of a tree, looking up at its leaves—something I loved doing as a child.
All components are crafted from solid oak and are held together by four screws per leg. The table stands 75 cm high with a diameter of 120 cm.
